In the Firefighter Program students learn both the academic and professional training necessary for careers in Fire Protection. The Firefighter program can be completed in one year. This program prepares students for jobs as volunteer firefighters that may be converted to paid positions with training and experience.
The majority of situations firefighters respond to are medical - rather than fire - emergencies. Students may choose a two-year program that is Firefighter for the first year and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for the second year.
Students must be age 16 or 17 at start of the Firefighter Program (Fire Cadet.)
Application Form Required
This is a dual enrollment college program; prospective students are required to complete and submit an application form to their high school counselor to be considered for enrollment into this program. More information and application form can be found under the Parents/Students tab.
The Firefighter/EMT Program is offered at the following location:
- Flat Rock High School
- On select days at The Wayne County Community College Northline Campus
Additional Credit Requirements for Graduation:
This state-approved CTE program may meet additional graduation credit requirements, including
- Mathematics/Final Year Math-Related
- Online Learning Experience
- Science
- VPAA (Visual, Performing, and Applied Arts
